Thanks Liz. I added that book to the list. I'm not a manager myself but a book that deals with personal goals from a Druckerian background definitely gets my attention.

And sorry for the delay posting your comment. I just set up this blog the other day and hadn't got to the comment settings yet -- I could use better knowledge management practices, perhaps ;)

Great wrap-up, and inclusion of lots of information. I know Drucker, whom you quote, called improving, in a definitive system, knowledge work productivity the greatest challenge of this new century. There's a book out now that builds upon Drucker's thinking to tell companies HOW to do that. (It's Reinvent Your Enterprise.) Drucker talked about WHAT managers need to do and, as I said, this books explains how to actually go about these things. And the system outlined in the book can also help people achieve personal goals better and faster (that's a part I really like). Definitely worth a look.

Thanks Seth - Sorry about the ambiguity there. My bad. I know those are your words but it definitely looks attributed to Nussbaum. I'll clarify it.

Great post, by the way (I had declared you the winner, at one point, before I saw Yglesias's reaction).

thanks Brian, for the wrap up.

To add a footnote, the following quote is me, not Nussbaum:

“People will pay for content if it is so unique they can’t get it anywhere else, so fast they benefit from getting it before anyone else, or so related to their tribe that paying for it brings them closer to other people. We’ll always be willing to pay for souvenirs of news, as well, things to go on a shelf or badges of honor to share.”
